Positivity Boosters
List of Positivity boosting activities:
- Meditation/Mindfulness/Reflection/Being in the moment
Many names for the same activity or actually non activity, this releases tremendous energy and space internally, improving health, sleep, focus, problem solving and decision making ability and emotional stability, making you much more productive and effective both personally and professionally. You already have seven techniques with you, there are many more available online. Try and make this a compulsory part of your routine.
- Practicing Gratitude
The more grateful you are, the more reasons you get for being grateful. A post that all of you have seen on the social media sometime or the other. And is so, so, true for two reasons, one where attention goes energy flows – you focus and react to what you notice. Being grateful helps you to focus on what you have, a much more resourceful way of thinking than focusing on what you don’t have. Secondly you attract what you think, if you think of blessing you attract blessings, if you focus on lack and problems you attract those. To make this more effective just before sleeping, practice any breathing techniques for three cycles to calm yourself, followed by noticing 5 things that you are grateful for and expressing your thankfulness for them. If you are a quick sleeper you can do it as soon as you wake up in the morning instead. Do this regularly and you’ll see more positive things manifesting in your life.
- Introspection
The answers to all the important questions are always found within your unconscious and the best way to accessing it is through introspection. Answering the how’s and what’s help you understand the behind the scene picture of what is happening and where you want to go from there. Questioning yourself or writing the situation down as a story in the third person are two wonderful introspecting tools. Making this a part of your routine by doing it at least once a week and more if required will give your life a very clear direction.
- Music
Everyone knows how effective this tool is. Just have a playlist ready beforehand, you don’t want to keep selecting and forwarding tracks when you are in an uncomfortable situation.
- Physical exercise
This one works at so many levels, with the neuro-transmitters secretion that balance the mood and the energy, the influx of oxygen to the brain leading to better mental clarity, flexibility of the body leading to decrease in stiffness and pains. Yoga is the best, but anything is better than nothing. So whether it is the Gym or Pilates or Zumba or dance or walking or jogging just get yourself out there.
- Diet – physical and mental
What you put into your body in the form of food and in your mind in the form what you read, watch, listen and discuss has a deep impact on you. Being careful with this improves not only your physical but also mental environment.
- Reading
A dying skill, the habit of reading, whether it is stories or self-help books, relaxes you and opens up your mind to new information, ideas and perspectives. Read not to be just well informed but to expand your mental make up by comparing your previous knowledge with what you are reading now. And if reading is a strain you have so many options with technology these days audio books, podcasts, summaries, online books whenever and wherever you want to access them. So stop making excuses and start now.
- Hobbies and creativity
Taking the time out for things that you enjoy doing, and I’m not talking about passive activities like listening to music or watching a match, can improve your state manifold. Painting, craft, singing, playing an instrument, dancing, writing, there are any number of options here. Do and learn or learn and do, but start and don’t aim on perfection.
- Connecting with nature
The ultimate positivity booster, there is nothing like connecting with nature, whether it is a walk in a park or on the beach, working in your garden or even hugging a tree, especially hugging a tree, dancing in the rain standing in the breeze, watching a sunset or sunrise, lying in the grass, looking at the clouds or the stars………… I’m sure you are getting the picture.
- Volunteering
Donating not money but your time and energy to a cause that you believe in boosts your positivity manifold. You can volunteer to talk to or read to patients, spend time at an old age home or orphanage playing with or spending time with people there, teaching skills or academics to children and adults who cannot afford it, making food and serving it where it is needed. Any skill you have, if you can gift it to the society is service and it always leads to satisfaction and peace.
11. Massage
A good massage often leads to a feeling of well being due to detoxification both at the physical and the energy level. You can take it to a deeper level by adding some emotion and thought enhancing elements to it – adding essential oils like lavender for relaxation, citrus for focus, etc, or lighting a scented candle and switch on some relaxing music, ending with warm green or herb tea for that spa like feeling. You can even do one of the visualizations after this. Make sure you keep 15 minutes extra on hand to let it all sink in, instead of jumping straight into whatever you have to do next.
If you have a tip or tool that would make this list grow please leave it in the comment box below and I’ll add it too. Thank you and enjoy the relaxation.
